Presentation Stations

In the past twenty years, I've seen a lot of different presentation station furniture. For K-12 education, many teachers have had their school custodian just take their "traditional teacher desk" away for a "plug and play" work surface. Here are three main types.

  1. The 24"-30"w x 48"L table that doubles as a desk and is a multimedia workstation for the teacher laptop/tablet with a doc cam connected to video projection or LED display. This is still may favorite because it gives teachers a flexible work surface, not too big or small. In the last several years, this work surface has become even more flexible with the popularity of crank, pneumatic, and electric height controlled tables for sit stand options.
  2. Recently, I've seen a lot of commercial two-tiered presentation desk systems that resemble a portable lectern plus a table for sitting. This option provides a sit-stand solution, but in my option is too large of a footprint for the average classroom.

  3. The third option, is my least favorite, but I'm seeing more and more in new construction schools. That would be what I call, "the hospital exam room media cart." For me it's just too small for the average teacher to lay out their stuff for a lesson. In any event, it's always good to get teacher input BEFORE you buy what you think is best, including my opinion here.

I designed the application spec for this adjustable stool with Office Master to go with the Presentation Station. Teachers love this stool!

I strongly recommend a self-adjusting sit stand solution so that the presenter can have the option. Tables with a crank handle system are currently the most affordable solution for K-12.

If you got a little "do it yourself" (diy) in you, I recommend the IKEA SIGNUM cord management system ($12 and shown to the right) that can be installed under any wood or laminate with particle board.

Here is a second option, a ready-made sit/stand podium desk with casters and storage. The table is fixed height for sitting and the podium has a height adjustment built-in to the support arms.

Presentation Workstation - DD48

And now, a blast from my past...

I designed the application spec for this workstation for San Diego Unified School District i21 Interactive Classroom. This station and another similar model are currently used in over 4,000 K-12 classrooms and media centers. The tabletop has a matte white formica finish for color balance with a mounted document camera and teacher or student laptop that is in turn connected to the classroom video projection/audio system.

Note- This is only a public introduction page. I have additional manufacturer/vendor products, services and pricing to share with my clients and their associates to meet district, school and/or individual learning space needs.
