Self Adjustable Sit-Stand Tables - Crank and Electric Controlled

These rectangular tables are designed to quickly and easily adjust from a standing to sitting position and vice versa. Self height adjusting systems typically use either a hand crank, pneumatic or electric control and are primarily marketed to adults in office and home spaces. Within the past couple of years the price range on these tables are steadily dropping. As the standing movement continues to grow in the workplace, educators like myself are advocating for this furniture for students in K-12 learning spaces as well.

People need to move to be productive. Common sense tells us that students need to stand and shift their weight during class time. So let's get students reading, writing, drawing, computing and collaborating while standing for part of their instructional day!

A stand/sit table allows students options to sit using a height adjustable stool, or stand by using the adjustable table and pushing the stool to one side.

Here are several affordable solutions I have found that can work in various learning spaces. I think these tables also make for a great presentation station with a cord management bend underneath.

  • Price - $239

  • Size- 47 1/4 x 27 1/2 "

  • You can easily adjust the height of the desk between 27 1/2" and 47 1/4" by just turning the handle to get the best position for both sitting and standing.

  • Changing positions between sitting and standing helps you both feel and work better.

  • Comfortable for left- and right-handers, as the crank handle can be mounted on the left or right side.

  • The crank handle slides in under the table top when not in use for a clean, uncluttered look.

  • Adjustable feet make the desk stand evenly on uneven floors.

  • I recommend buying the IKEA SIGNUM

Cable management undermount, shown here, $12.00

  • Changing positions between sitting and standing helps you both feel and work better.

  • The veneer surface is durable, stain resistant and easy to keep clean.

  • It’s easy to keep your desk neat and tidy with the cable management net under the table top.

  • Deep table top gives a generous work surface and lets you sit at a comfortable distance from the computer monitor.

As a personal note, I'm writing this at my Bekant standing table in my home office. I have lower back issues and this table has been wonderful for active sitting and standing options. For sitting, I use this table with a balance ball chair or a wobble stool.

My business partner Bill DeVoe also uses a Bekant standing desk at his office too!
